Hynek Promotion 12/19/14 12/20/14 - New London Fire Fighters
A swearing in ceremony was held at Fire Headquarters to promote Firefighter Jeremy Hynek to the rank of Lieutenant. Lt. Hynek is a 14 year veteran of the New London Fire Department. Lt. Hynek is a graduate of the University of New Haven and has a Bachelors Degree in Fire Science and Administration. Lt.
Bangor Firefighters raise $9,084 for MDA in Black Friday Fill the Boot 12/20/14 - IAFF Local 772
BANGOR, Maine – More than nine members of the Bangor Fire Department Local 772 raised $9,084 during the annual Fill the Boot drive on Black Friday to benefit children and adults affected by muscle disease throughout the Bangor area.
To date the Bangor Fire Department has raised $29,322 for the MDA of Maine.

This will also serve as a foundation for the future educational needs of their two young children. Kenny obviously worked multiple jobs and now that family income is lost. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Four people lived in a home that was badly damaged by a fire Thursday night.
It happened in the 1500 Block of 2nd Avenue about 6:30 p.m.
Crews tell WSAZ.com that the only person who was in the home when the fire broke out was an elderly woman who was bedridden. Her brother met crews outside.

Donald Murphy 12/19/14 - New London Fire Fighters
It is with deepest regret and sorrow to announce the death of Retired Battalion Chief Donald Murphy. BC Murphy (age 88) passed away this morning at L&M Hospital.
In 1952, BC Murphy joined the New London Police Department as a Supernumerary and at the same time started out as a substitute Firefighter for the New London Fire Department.

The funeral services for retired Denver Fire Fighter and Local 858 member Paul Spurgeon, will be held at 11am on Friday, Decemebr 19, 2014 at Cross of the Christ Lutheran Church, 12099 Lowell Blvd. Broomfield Co. Brother Spurgeon worked for the Denver Fire Department for 32 years and retired as the Division Chief of Operations.

On Friday December 12, 2014 Dyersburg Local 2269 with assistance from Kroger collected food for their local food pantry. The local paper ran a story about their efforts. Massachusetts Firefighters to Warm the Hearts of Children with Hundreds of New Winter Coats 12/18/14 - Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts
BOSTON, Mass. – This holiday season hundreds of less-fortunate children will be outfitted with brand-new winter coats thanks to the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts. The statewide union raised more than $23,000 and partnered with Operation Warm, a national, non-profit organization that has provided new coats to 1.5 million children in need. 700 children in Holyoke, Lynn and New Bedford will receive brand new USA-made coats and be able to select their favorite color, and write their name on the interior tag of the new coat, which reads, “Made Just for You.”

Unfortunately, this year no one else has stepped up to assist, which led to this event being within two days of being cancelled.

One woman was transported to Berkshire Medical Center with burns on her hands and feet in the wake of a fire at 27 Lincoln Street that badly damaged a two-family home Sunday morning
In addition to the woman, whose condition was unavailable yesterday, three firefighters were also injured in the blaze, according to Acting Deputy Fire Chief Steven Peaslee.

Since good hearing is critical for firefighters, Wayne State University (WSU) is partnering with the Detroit Fire Department to identify the environmental/genetic risk factors that enhance the susceptibility to noise-induced hearing impairment. Several reports indicate that 40% of firefighters develop hearing impairment.
